uPVC Windows Alliance member, Plustec's Dr. Tracy Wakefield will be presenting on bringing modern window systems technology to Australia at an SPE event next week. Plustec has just produced the first Australian-extruded uPVC window profiles.
uPVC windows are the most commonly specified window system globally, dominating markets in the US and Europe. Their high insulating and air tightness performance are recocognised as providing a measurable difference to the energy efficiency performance of homes and other buildings.
In Australia, there is significant scope to improve the energy performance of the built environment by improving energy efficiency standards and codes as they relate to windows. The built environment currently accounts for 23% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. Implementing an effective energy code in the sector is essential to realising Australia’s long term energy and greenhouse gas targets.
Countries with strong building energy codes have – in some cases, for many years – mandated maximum U-values for windows according to building type and climate zone. The uPVC Windows Alliance supports such measures being introduced here.
Strong building energy codes will bring not only substantial cuts to greenhouse gas emissions and reduced energy bills, but also ensure more comfortable homes and indoor environments for habitants.
